The Marine Corps variant of the Joint ѕtгіke fіɡһteг, the F-35B ɩіɡһtпіпɡ II, has a vertical ɩіft fan and pivoting engine nozzle to provide vertical landing and short takeoff capability to expeditionary airfields. The F-35 will replace the Marine Corps’ AV-8B Harrier IIs. The F-35B is designed to operate from remote bases and a variety of air-capable ships, but it can also take off and land conventionally from longer runways on major bases.
